WISE co-hosts "Selecting a Math Science Concentration" event during LSA Concentration Fair week

More than 80 undergraduate students attended a "Selecting a Math or Science Concentration" event on March 27 at Pizza House restaurant, aimed and providing an opportunity to learn about different math and science concentrations from declared students.

In addition to pizza and salad, student were given information on how to declare a concentration, different concentration requirements, and a top 10 list of important things to know about declaring a concentration.

For example, once a concentration is declared, it can always be changed. The Advising Report (unofficial transcript) will show any declared or changed concentrations. However, the official transcript does not show this history. It only shows the final concentration(s) and any minors.

As part of the event, several declared students shared with the entire audience their stories about how they "found" their concentrations. Afterwards the undeclared students were encouraged to talk individually with declared students situated at concentration tables set up around the restaurant.

Concentrations represented at the even included Math, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Biology, Neuroscience, Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science, PITE, Geology, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Statistics, and Plant Biology.

LSA Academic advisors were also on hand and were kept busy during the entire event answering student questions.

In addition to WISE, event co-sponsors included the Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP), LSA Academic Advising, the Science Learning Center, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).
