WISE co-sponsors conference for Physics undergradsThe First Midwest Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physic was held January 19-20 in UM's West Hall. The conference, geared toward women anticipating graduation, provided info about applying to grad school and career opportunities, and gave attendees a chance to hear about the latest research in physics, presented by their peers. Another central goal of the conference was to provide women in physics with an opportunity to network, and the women in attendance had the opportunity to hear speakers such as UM's President Mary Sue Colman, as well as Mary Putman and Sharon Glotzer, both instructors at UM, Vicky Kalogera, Mildred Dresselhaus from MIT, Patricia Rankin from the University of Colorado, and Kathy-Anne Brickman (Chicago). Other sponsors included The National Science Foundation, The Michigan Center for Theoretical Physics, Frontiers in Optical Coherent and Ultrafast Science, UM Department of Physics, and The ADVANCE Program at the University of Michigan.
