WISE co-sponsors science job workshop with Dr. Peter Fiske

On Monday, October 8, 2007, about 150 graduate students and post-docs from science fields attended a WISE-co-sponsored workshop led by Peter S. Fiske, Ph.D., founder and CFO of RAPT Industries. The workshop, entitled "Putting Your Science to Work: Practical Career Strategies for Ph.D.s," was held in the Biomedical Science Research Building Auditorium.

Fiske shared many insights with attendees, including ways to have a better job search and how to get the job you really want, the types of skills employers are really looking for, and tips on networking, all geared towards young scientists with advanced degrees.

Fiske is a recognized lecturer and the author of To Boldly Go: A Practical Career Guide for Scientists and Put your Science to Work. He earned his Ph.D. in Geological and Environmental Sciences in 1994 from Stanford University and an MBA from University of California, Berkeley in 2002.

Other event co-sponsors include The Career Center, Program in Biomedical Sciences, Psychology Graduate Program Office, Chemistry, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
