A message from Director Dr. Cinda-Sue Davis
The 2007/2008 academic year started once again with a significant move for the one of the Women in Science and Engineering Program offices. The WISE Science moved from temporary space to its permanent location at 1140 Undergraduate Science Building (USB). We were sad to leave our little space next to the Science Learning Center in the Chemistry Building but have grown to love the greatly expanded space and location of our new digs. We share an office suite with the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) and the Program in the Environment (PiTE) – both wonderful neighbors with terrific opportunities for collaborations. News from WISE Residence Program: Cisco Internship Experience by Stephanie Wightman
Many people believe that first year students do not get internships because they do not look as hard or they sell themselves short because of their lack of experience. Last year, I ignored these ideas and went to the career fair anyway.
The company representatives I met with were impressed by my initiative in coming to a career fair that mostly juniors and seniors attend, not only because most first years are trying to get adjusted to college and are not thinking about internships, but also because the companies themselves had not started thinking about hiring interns yet.
