Two endowments for WISE women

The WISE Program was the recipient of two generous bequests this past year, creating the first two endowments in the program's history.   The first was established in the memory of Sushila R. Subramanian who passed away this past June.   Ms. Subramanian had an M.S.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan ('91) and had most recently worked as an independent software consultant.   She also worked as a software engineer at the University of Michigan's Center for Information Technology Integration (CITI), the School of Information, the College of Engineering's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) Department. Her husband, Dan Kiskis, an assistant research scientist in the EECS department, established the Sushila R. Subramanian Memorial Fund to recognize her interest in increasing the number of girls and women who pursue degrees and careers in IT fields.   The funds will support middle and high school girls' participation in WISE summer programs.

In October, a second significant WISE endowment, the Erwin C. Rohde Fund, was created. Mr. Rohde was a member of the College of Engineering class of 1939.   These funds will also be used to recruit and retain girls and women in engineering fields.
