RobotC for Girls and RobotC II for Girls
A Summer Program for High-School Students

What is it?

RobotC for Girls and RobotC II for Girls are one-week, day programs for students who will complete grades 8-12 in June 2009.

The camp introduces students to computer programming in a fun and supportive environment. RobotC II is offered to girls who have participated in our RobotC camp last year, and/or to girls who have had an introduction to RobotC, C++ or text-based programming (HTML does not count). The number of campers is limited to 15 for each RobotC and RobotC II.

Our campers are chaperoned by WISE camp staff at all times.

RobotC for Girls and RobotC II for Girls are sponsored by the University of Michigan, Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program and by Google.

When and where is it?

RobotC and RobotC II will be held on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor.

Monday-Friday, July 6-10, 2009
8:30 AM–4:30 PM

Who is eligible to apply?

You are eligible to apply forRobotC and RobotC II if:

  • You will complete grades 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 in June 2009
  • You have an interest in science, programming, mathematics, or engineering
  • You send us a *complete* application, including a letter of recommendation, postmarked no later than May 22, 2009. If you already have a recommendation form on file with the WISE program for the 2009 GISE camp, you will not need to submit another.
  • RobotC: No previous experience in robotics or programming is necessary.
  • RobotC II: Prerequisite included either RobotC for Girls 2008, or some experience with a text based programming language (not HTML).

What is the cost?

RobotC and RobotC II costs $200 for a five-day session. This tuition includes five full days of program activities from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. Lunch is not provided. Students should bring a bag lunch every day. All instructional costs, supplies, and equipment are included.

A limited number of partial scholarships are available to students who are eligible for the program and who can document need. To apply for scholarship support, please complete the attached scholarship request form and return it with your application.

Optional early drop-off and late pick-up is available for an additional fee.

How do I apply?

Complete the entire student application form. Use black ink or a typewriter. Give the recommendation form to the person you have chosen to recommend you. Remember that your recommendation must be from a math or science teacher. We will not consider an application until it is complete, including a letter of recommendation. Return your completed application not later than by May 22, 2009. Each camp session is limited to 15 students.

Accepted students will be notified by mail and will be asked to send a non-refundable, space-reserving deposit of $100.00 when they are notified. They will also receive participation forms and directions to the camp. A balance of $100 due by June 5, 2009.

Please Note: Partial scholarships are limited and may not be available to all students who request them. Many community organizations are willing to help fund the costs of student participation in summer learning programs. If you need assistance with the cost of the program, please check with groups in your area. Examples include: Zonta, Rotary Clubs, Church/religious groups, Girl Scouts, and schools. Teachers may have additional suggestions.
