Pre-College Students

Recognizing that an undergraduate support program cannot operate in a vacuum, but must build upon the pre-college experience. Women in Science and Engineering Program has developed an active outreach program to secondary schools. Our pre-college programs include the following:

Genes in Diseases and Symptoms (GIDAS) Program

High School Camp, June 24 - 28, 2013
8th Grade Camp, July 30 - August 1, 2013 The camp focuses on the role of genomics in diseases and symptoms, treatments to affect gene expression, and computational biology to identify suspect genes.

Girls in FIRST Teams

WISE sponsors two middle school FIRST Lego League teams each Fall term. Teams meet in the Undergraduate Sciences Building on UMs central campus beginning the first Sunday after Labor Day - December.

Southeastern Michigan Science Fair

The WISE Program, in collaboration with Washtenaw Community College, coordinates the Intel-affiliated Southeastern Michigan Science Fair. Students in grades 7-12 from Livingston, Washtenaw, Monroe, Hillsdale and Lenawee counties are eligible to participate. This program aims at engaging both boys and girls.
