Women and men enter the University of Michigan with similar backgrounds in mathematics and science, yet far fewer women than men graduate with majors in the sciences. Undergraduate women are provided support in the following manner:
Workshops, Events, Panels and Programs
Incoming freshmen are identified by the WISE Program as potential science majors by their expressed interests and/or backgrounds. These students are invited to participate in periodic workshops, events, panels and programs focusing on careers in science, engineering, or mathematics and on successfully navigating the University. Undergraduate Advisory Board
The WISE undergraduate Advisory Board is made up of undergraduate women in the sciences and engineering who plan and lead many WISE programs, in addition to advising WISE staff on program needs.
WISE Residential Program (WISE RP)

The WISE Residential Program is a living-learning experience for first and second year women majoring in science, engineering or mathematics. Located in Mosher-Jordan residence hall, the program provides networks, study groups, sections of first year classes, mentoring, and support. Initially funded with University moneys and a grant from the fund to improve Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE), this program has recently been honored by the National Science Foundation with a “Recognition Award for the Integration of Research and Education.” (RAIRE).
Marian Sarah Parker Scholars (MSP) Program
The MSP encourages high-achieving women in engineering, in their junior year of study, to consider pursuing graduate degrees. The selection is based on the student's academic achievement and the potential to continue their studies into graduate school.
WISE Employment and Volunteer Opportunities
From volunteering to serve on our advisory board, to serving on panels, to working with pre-college students in our summer camps, WISE has many opportunities for students to gain leadership experience and to support women in science and engineering.
